Fall poems

Kayaking in New Hampshire

In September, I kayak in New Hampshire on Pawtuckaway Lake.  I leave behind my music gear and social media, and focus on the sounds of nature. Formal structure: Regulated jueju seven words per line, ping start, aaba rhyme scheme.

Poem:

Wee hours lake splash mist soothes here
First light loon call marsh wakes near
Let’s mute cell phones shed net’s grip
Slim keel’s light draft floats mind clear

A Woodland Walk in Late October

I walk in the nature preserve behind my home where gold leaves cover the Owl Gulch trail. Formal structure: ze start rhyming first line.

Poem:

Bright flash leaves turn hot months fray
Dull thud nuts drop crisp morns stay
Owls hear leaf crunch in cool gulch
Fresh path I blaze up gilt way
